About us
Flexible Education Norway (FuN)* is a network for Norwegian providers of flexible learning and education; including independent distance education institutions, public universities and colleges, private institutions and training centers for business and industry.
What we do
- We facilitate and stimulate collaboration in the world of education that is ever-changing.
- We work with quality assurance, innovation and policy development.
- We develop tools and resources for implementing flexible learning.
- We also represent our members’ common interests and organise conferences, discussions, seminars and workshops for our members and all those interested in the field of flexible learning and education.
What is flexible learning
Flexible learning is education or training where the learner has a high degree of choice regarding where, when, and how learning takes place.
Flexible education and training can help to bridge the skills gap and contribute to resolving major societal challenges. Flexible learning has long been an alternative to traditional education, but in recent times, it has become increasingly sought after by society at large and by individual learners. The one constant in today’s society is change. The fast pace of change in the work place and beyond has created a greater need for flexible learning than ever before. We need to learn while we work and remain productive in our personal and professional lives.
Flexible learning is necessary for:
Lifelong learning and adaptability: re-skilling and up-skilling in order to remain relevant and productive members of society. Learning and work are combined without interruption.
Preparedness: continuity and adaptation in education and training during crises such as pandemics and natural disasters.
Inclusion: so that more people gain the skills needed to enter the workforce.
Our members
Our collective aim is to provide quality education for all regardless of their background, location and individual needs. Our members provide an extensive range of subjects, courses and study programmes from primary to university level, and customized courses for professionals.
